" The Galaxy Evolution Explorer: Results
from the First Year"
The Galaxy Evolution Explorer, a NASA Small Explorer, was launched from Kennedy Space Center just over a year ago. The satellite is now conducting a series of imaging and spectroscopic surveys in the ultraviolet. I will describe the motivation for the mission, the design of the satellite, and the performance of the instruments in space and then focus on our early results on star formation in the local universe and on the evolution of the star formation rate with redshift.
